Holiday Ideas Comfort Food - Meatloaf Recipe

Meatloaf Ingredients:

salt (Sprinkle 1 1/2 tsp. throughout mixture, don't dump in.)
pepper (Sprinkle 1/2 Tsp. throughout mixture, don't dump in.)
garlic salt
1/2 cup fresh basil chopped/chefinodd
1 tsp. oregano
1/2 cup fresh parsley chopped/chefinodd
1/2 c. panko
1/2 can tomato paste
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper (optional)
1 egg
1 cup cheddar cheese
2 lbs. ground round beef
1 lb. ground country pork sausage or sweet italian sausage
1/2 package Lipton onion soup mix
1 Tablespoon of red wine (optional) merlot or cabernet savignon
2 Tbsp butter

For sauce
1 can tomato sauce
1 can stewed tomatoes with basil, oregano, garlic
1/2 can tomato paste
1 tsp. granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 c milk
2 Tbsp. butter melted
1 Tbsp. cornstarch or flour (mix with the milk, avoids clumps)
1 Tablespoon of red wine (optional)merlot or cabernet savignon
1 beef boullion cube or powder
1/2 brown gravy
1/2 package of Liptons onion soup mix

Kitchen tools and utensils:

1 large mixing bowl, 1 handheld mixer, 1 large rectangular pan, 1 3 quart pot, 1 fork, 1 large cooking wooden spoon, 1 knife, measuring spoons, measuring cups, 1 large plastic/tefflon cooking spoon, 1 spatula, 1 plastic container, 1 plastic wrap, papertowels to clean.

Instructions for meatloaf:

Mix all the meatloaf ingredients together in a large mixing
bowl well. Place and form meatloaf in a large retangular pan,
add butter on top of the meatloaf and bake for 1 hour. While
this is cooking on the stovetop, cook your sauce. If you don't
like chunky tomatoes from the stewed tomatoes, mash them up in
the pot or use a handheld mixer to puree. Cook the sauce until
all of the sauce ingredients are incorporated together. Now
check your meatloaf in the over when you reached the 1 hour
and flip it carefully over in the pan. Add more butter on top, then add the tomato sauce and bake for another 1/2 hour more. Let the
meatloaf rest before cutting. It makes delicious sandwiches
the next day. Bake meatloaf at 350 degrees. Cook sauce over
medium heat in a 3 quart pot, constant stirring use a wooden
or plastic large spoon preferred, then lower the heat to
prevent over boiling. Serves 8 (1 inch sliced)

Prep time: 1 1/2 hours
Cook time: 1 1/2 hour meatloaf
Cook time: 20 minutes sauce

Served with Mash potatoes, garlic bread and green salad
Tips for storage: Do not put foil on this in the refrigerator.
The tomato sauce akaline acidity and foil will have a reaction. Cover with plastic wrap or plastic food storage container.

It's a time consuming dish, but well worth your effort. You'll
have plenty time to relax after this hearty meal. I call this
comfort food. If you have less people to cook for, just cut
this recipe in 1/2 for a smaller version. I love coming up
with new recipes that are always a hit in my house.
